The BBC Academy has a deserved reputation for the quality and range of its training and development programmes, which benefit the BBC and the wider broadcast industry.
It has, therefore, been a real honour for me to manage the creation and execution of a programme for the business analysis practitioners across the BBC.
The Business Analysis Development Programme helps those with an interest in business analysis to acquire additional and appropriate skills, as well as those with career aspirations to be seen as a BA professional to meet their goal.
The programme is formed from a set of formal training modules plus practical evidenced experiences evaluated by leading BA professionals within the BBC. It seeks to demonstrate not just a commitment to completing training courses but to show that learning is continuously being applied in the day job, having a direct impact upon the quality of projects and products delivered across the BBC.
In support of the commitment to the BA community within the BBC, as people advance through the levels of achievement they will also demonstrate leadership in specific practice areas, knowledge sharing meet ups and engagement with the broader BA community in the industry.
In progressing through the levels of achievement from Foundation through Practitioner, Higher and to Expert levels, each person will have built their own portfolio of evidence, supporting not only the journey through the programme but their development as a professional.
Some of the key attributes of the programme are:
- Apart from a tailored foundation course for the Future Media division, who have a more extensive use of agile methods, the training modules are based upon existing courses available from a range of providers
- The programme is common to practitioners within the Future Media and Technology, Distribution and Archive divisions, even though there is major diversity between project types (from broadcast infrastructure through to digital media) and methods (waterfall through to Kanban)
- There is a sense of ownership by the practice community, ensuring the programme continues to evolve to meet the needs of the individual and the corporation
- The value drivers are the practical difference the programme will make to effective project and product delivery and the progression of the individual BA practitioner
The awards received by each individual at each stage are recognition of real achievements and contributions and something that each person will be justly proud.
