Professional Scrum Master Course Content
Scrum Master’s Services to the Development Team
Successful Development Teams have the courage to actively involve stakeholders, empathise with other perspectives, celebrate success and failure, avoid tools that minimise transparency, work truly as a team and continuously focus on creating “Done” valuable increments;
The closer an increment is to truly be releasable, the more transparent the state of the product is. The more we know about the state of the product, the better informed we are about what to expect next;
The benefits of Scrum increase as the definition of “Done” becomes more complete (e.g. released to production);
The Scrum Masters coaches’ teams in the impact that a limited definition of “Done” has on transparency;
Every Sprint has a clear purpose, made explicit in the Sprint Goal, by which transparency, inspection, and adaptation of the Sprint can occur. It is up to the Scrum Master to ensure the Goal creates transparency on the potential value of the current Sprint.
Scrum Master’s Services to the Product Owner
Successful Product Owners help shorten the feedback cycle, respect the complexity of product development, involve stakeholders, focus on the ‘why’ and ‘what’, leave the ‘how’ to the team, and release early and often;
Product Owners focus on delivering business value. Being able to say ‘no’ is an important aspect of the role;
The Scrum Master helps by making transparent what is limiting the Product Owner in successfully delivering products with Scrum, and by removing (or helping to remove) the impediments identified;
Scrum Master’s Services to the Organisation
Scrum Masters tend to focus on their own bubble. In order to work with management, we need to empathise with their position and drivers;
Much like software development, transitions are very complex. Certainties are not possible. Instead, use an empirical process to reduce risks of failure. Using a plan-based approach to become Agile is not going to help;
The best approach to organisational change depends entirely on context. Sometimes you want to start small and scale up, while a ‘big bang’ may be the way to go at other times. But rely on the following principles: encourage self-organization on every level, empower the people doing the work to shape how they work, frequently inspect and adapt based on (measurable) outcomes;
The chances of a successful Scrum adoption will increase drastically when you consider your Scrum Masters as the true “inside out” change facilitators!
Professional Scrum Master Outcomes
Delegates will leave with a comprehensive understanding of how the principles and values of Scrum help guide Scrum Masters in the decisions they make and how the Scrum Master can help change the environment of Scrum Teams, creating an environment for agility to thrive.
The Professional Scrum Master II course is designed for experienced professional scrum masters who have been practising Scrum for a year or more with a thorough understanding of the Scrum framework. It is also recommended that attendees have already achieved the PSM I qualification. This course allows scrum masters to share their own experiences and identify ways to resolve them.

The interactions across the team driven by different activities was amazing and made the course enjoyable, rather than death by content. Plus they are there for us to use going forward.
